Need for judicious CDS prescribing (cont’d)

Using opioids as an example, in 2009, the following sources of these medications were reported for individuals in Canadian dependency treatment programs: 37% obtained opioids from prescriptions alone, 26% obtained opioids from prescriptions and from the street, and 21% obtained opioids from the street only (Sproule, Brands, Li, & Catz-Biro, 2009).
