An excellent resource to review that outlines assessment and acute pain is the document, Acute Pain Management: Scientific Evidence Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and Faculty of Pain Medicine. This resource provides information on guidelines for the assessment and treatment of acute pain. Recommendations include a comprehensive assessment, addiction-risk screening, and urine drug screening.
A summary of peer-reviewed evidence supporting the recommendations is also available.
