Introduction

There are several important tools and mechanisms that support healthcare providers, including RNs and NPs, in managing and prescribing controlled drugs and substances. Some are specific to these agents, such as treatment agreements and addiction risk assessment tools, while others such as the reporting of adverse events apply to all medications. In this lesson, learners will become familiar with a selection of these tools, and are encouraged to explore additional resources that are relevant to NP prescribing practices.
