Addiction risk assessment approach to safety
The risk of addiction must be assessed if a controlled drug or substance is being considered to manage a patient’s symptoms. Recommendation R-02 of the guideline speaks to addiction risk screening and specifies that prescribers should consider using a screening tool to assess the patient’s risk for opioid addiction.
