Module 4: Therapeutics
Lesson 2
Equianalgesia
It is important to note that there are multiple different versions of tables for opioid equivalency (equianalgesia) and various opinions on conversion approaches. The Canadian Guideline for Safe and Effective Use of Opioids for Chronic Non-Cancer Pain provide analgesic conversion tables. In the following YouTube video, Dr. Mary Lynn McPherson discusses equianalgesic opioid dosing and why it is an important concept for clinicians to understand.
An excellent video on the topic of equianalgesia by Dr. Christopher M. Herndon discusses how clinicians can better differentiate opioid equianalgesic dosing side effects and patient specific monitoring parameters.
