Barbiturates – Pharmacokinetics

They are classified into three groups based on the duration of action: short, medium, and long acting. Absorption following oral administration is usually rapid and complete. These drugs are rapidly distributed to all tissues and fluids. High concentrations appear in the brain, liver, and kidneys. Metabolic elimination is affected by age, chronic liver disease, and other drugs.
