Module 1: Professional Accountability and Prescribing

Lesson 2

Protection of Personal Health Information

The Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Code of Ethics (2008) outlines nurses’ responsibilities for maintaining privacy and confidentiality. There are a number of laws in Canada that relate to privacy rights, which vary across jurisdictions.  Our professional regulatory agencies often have standards of practice supporting our compliance to these laws. In addition, the organizations we work for, in order to comply with privacy laws, will have guidelines for employees to conform to the laws.
