Module 1: Professional Accountability and Prescribing

Lesson 1

The Food and Drug Regulations

The Food and Drug Regulations (2017) provides Health Canada’s standards for the safety and quality of all food and drugs distributed in Canada. The Food and Drug Regulations Part G  outlines these standards and responsibilities as they relate to controlled drugs and the associated Schedule lists all controlled drugs and substances currently available in Canada. The Schedule appears at the end of the Part G narrative, and is important for NPs to reference as it stipulates the specific controlled drugs and substances that are within NP prescriptive authority; most notably the single anabolic steroid that is listed in the NCPR.
