Federal legislation and regulation
The federal government passed legislation in November 2012 to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). The amendments to the CDSA included the addition of the New Classes of Practitioners Regulations (NCPR) (2012) which added nurse practitioners (NPs) to the list of prescribers authorized to possess, administer, prescribe, sell or provide and/or transport drugs and substances listed in Schedule 1 of the Benzodiazepines and Other Targeted Substances Regulations (BOTSR) (2012), the schedule to Part G of the Food and Drug Regulations (2012), and the schedule to the Narcotic Control Regulations (2012).
